Composition
Composition begins with nothing more than imagination, pencil, and paper. My work draws on 20th-century composers such as Bartók, Boulez, and Carter, and has been profoundly shaped by my teachers Salvatore Macchia and Alla Cohen. I aim to create a musical language that navigates the chromatic universe while maintaining clarity and communicating ideas effectively to performers and audiences.
Improvisation is a counterbalance to composition. While composing gives me control, improvisation thrusts me into the unknown. With the STINO Trio, I return to my roots, diving into jazz and blues with a feeling of coming home. Whether performing originals or standards, every show becomes an unexpected journey.
